As part of the Department’s strategy to improve children’s literacy and numeracy skills, the National Adult Literacy Agency developed the website www.helpmykidlearn.ie. This provides some suggestions for enjoyable activities in which parents and their children can engage. We recommend this website to parents as a source of suggestions for enjoyable activities in which parents and their children can engage. Have a look in 'Parents Info' page for further websites, which are also of value to you and your child.

It was a day to remember for staff and students in Scoil Mhichíl on Monday 29th of May. We were offered a very unique experience thanks to the Search and Rescue Services. At 9.30 a.m we could hear the unmistakable sound of an approaching helicopter. As the children looked east a tiny dot in the distance became the unmistakable sight of one of Ireland's search and rescue helicopters. It circled the school a few times, with one of the winch men clearly visible in the open doorway, before landing in an adjoining field. The children were given the privilege of a walk through the helicopter and talks from the crew on their work as well as the various pieces of equipment that they carried on the helicopter. it is an experience afforded to very few and was much appreciated by the children and the staff. A day that will live long in the memory of all in Scoil Mhichíl.

Scoil Mhichíl has been formed since September 2013 following the amalgamation of Clonigulane N.S and Cahermurphy N.S. We are a four teacher rural school , three classroom teachers and one learning support teacher, catering for children from junior infants to sixth class. We are situated two miles from the village of Kilmihil.
In common with all schools, the teachers cater to the individual needs of their pupils and work with very supportive parents who value the individual attention,the emphasis on being 'the best you can be', and the unique atmosphere created by the school community, which ensures that all who attend or visit the school are influenced positively by the experience. Our school motto is 'Fás agus Foghlaim' - growing and learning together. Our smaller class size allows us to cater for the individual needs of the child giving the opportunity for personal attention for each child. Our school has the advantage of having fifteen hours Learning Support.

1916 Scoil Mhichíl Centenary Ceremony
A morning bathed in Spring sunshine with the birds singing welcomed everyone to the Raising the Flag Ceremony in Scoil Mhichíl.
A sense of being part of a bigger event added significance to the morning's events. The reading of the original proclamation reminded all of the history of the event we were commemortating . The raising of the flag by the children as 'Mise Eire' was played was an emotional high point for many of those present.
The reading of the proclamation for our time acknowledged the contribution of those who created our state and institutions, passed on our traditions and shaped our society. It spoke eloquently of the hopes of a new generation for the future of our country. it was a morning that will be long remembered by those who attended.

POBLACHT NA H EIREANN
THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT
OF THE
IRISH REPUBLIC
TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND
A Eireannaigh Uilig
It is the sincere wish of our school community that all citizens of our country from the very youngest to the very oldest be treated equally, regardless of race, colour, sexual orientation, religious beliefs , gender or class.
Today we remember those men and women who created and shaped our nation. We acknowledge the debt of gratitude owed to those who nourished and handed on our culture of music, song and dances; our language and our games.
We salute those who cared for our countryside, created our cities, administered our institutions and served the citizens of this country.
We value and recognise the selfless voluntary contributions of time, energy and expertise given freely and with generosity of spirit and great enthusiasm that has helped to shape our society.
Our vision is for an Ireland where education of the highest standard is free and accessible to all;
A health system that respects the dignity of the individual with access for all in a timely manner;
An Ireland where no-one is without the basic necessities of shelter, heat and food.
A country where people feel safe and live free from fear of crime.
A society where freedom of expression will always be valued.
An environment that is managed to preserve and promote our landscape, our monuments and our countryside , which will allow their enjoyment by future generations.
